This one was done by Winters, our "Nuclear Kiwi" in 2003...

U.S Navy Pilot Chris Burnett (WILSON) has had enough of the Navy. He signed up to be a fighter pilot, not a cop policing the skies over Bosnian airspace. Unfortunately his last trip out to mark an end to his career turns into a fight for survival, when he and his fellow man are shot out of the skies by surface to air missile batterys in a demilitarized zone near the town of Hach.

Burnett's commanding officer (HACKMAN) is prepared to do whatever he can to get his men back, but in doing so risks the stability of the peace process in the region. Outnumbered and outgunned, Burnett and his fellow pilot must get out of enemy territory and into a safe zone.

Review:

This film features some of the best air evasive manouevres I've ever seen regarding the threat of SAMs. The digital effects are near to flawless, and merge in nicely with the rest of the action.

This film is based on a true story. The truth of this story centers around the ethnic cleansing of Bosnia, and the shooting down of an F-18 Hornett. I am unsure about the details of the two pilots and what they faced, but the other themes are present indeed.

I had a problem with the last ten minutes of this film because the US Navy slaughtered over 70 enemy troops, tanks and AA vehicles using 3 lightly armed choppers. None of the enemy soldiers or vehicles hit anything save one US soldier, and we're talking of distances <100m away. I could have shot a tin can by accident at that range...

I get the feeling that in order for the film crew and cast to use the Navy facilities, they had to somehow make the US Navy look like the best fighting force in the world. I would say that they succeeded.

BUT, despite the last ten minutes I think the rest of the film's outstanding. A better ending should have been put in.

Special Features.

These were pathetic. Really. The 'Deleted scenes' were more or less exactly the same as footage already present in the movie, but with alternative music. The extended scenes have no color grading and are very saturated and 'handycam' like.

Can you believe it took them over 6 years to make this film? I can't. Don't expect to be blown away by any special features. Even the audio commentary at its best is rather boring..

In Short:

Plot/Storyline: 88%
Acting/Dialogue: 93%
Sound/Music: 100%
Special Features: 13%
