Re-posted from original TLP forums (one I had actually saved to disk)...

The following extract is taken directly from Monty’s MySpace page…

Monty, the former lead singer of the Dubious Brothers, the cult ‘80’s anarcho-music hall act, has returned with his third solo album, “The Judas Window” on Narcissus records NOW AVAILABLE IN THE USA at http://cdbaby.com/cd/montymusic and in the UK and at all good download sites. Monty has been an album producer and written TV themes and written songs for the legendary El records. He also brought you the London Punkharmonic Ochestra’s “Symphony of Destruction” (released as “Classical Punk” in the UK.)

There are 11 killer tracks (!) on this gem of a CD. All of the songs masquerade as light and bubbly, but lurking beneath lies a hard-edged core of honey covered lyrics dripping with biting sarcasm. Witty in the extreme, and with a nice touch of black background humour…all songs tell a tale, with the lyrics deep and thoughtful. The composition of each track is blended and balanced well by the choice of the various instruments. Great guitar riffs, drum beats and strings lend themselves to the strong vocals.

Tracks are as follows (and my interpretation, which is not necessarily the one that Monty gives)...

IN MY HEAD - this jazzy little number sets the tone for the album – implying all the dark things lurking within that threaten to spill out and engulf both the singer and the listener.

SERIAL KILLERS – the song that hooked me onto Monty’s “Indie/Lounge/Gothic” musical tag. This song is about the daily annoyances that get to us all, and imagining them all “taken care of by suitably violent means” (though with a mock disclaimer!).

BYRONESQUE – one of the most scathing, acid-etched songs of the album – a cruel and heartless criticism of a narcissistic writer’s cravings for attention and recognition in their own lunchtime.

VOODOO HAIRDO – about a femme fatal with a killer hairstyle and predatory leanings! Great drum beat and a throbbing tune – Monty really belts it out.

EROS 433 – is a slower number, with a slightly eastern feel to it that opens up to a heartfelt ballad with nicely delicate instrumentation. A song I have come to appreciate greatly after a few listenings.

EVERYONE LIES – this song basically is about getting someone badly hurt by love being told that everyone lies, “except me”…which is, of course, a blatant contradiction of the statement.

PEARL HANDLED REVOLVER – is a folksy little ditty about the love of a little gun solving the problem of being mired in the frustrations of daily life and a nowhere relationship. (See Serial Killers methinks!)

REQUIEM FOR MARY MILLINGTON - is a moving song about a growing relationship that is lost. Lovely strings interlude in this one. Though how the relationship is lost is slightly mysterious.

METAMORPHOSIS – starts off slightly hi-tech-ish, then opens up into a bass number with repetitive tag line “if I’m going down then you’re all coming with me if I’m going”. Very catchy.

WEST END FINAL – slower but really lovely song with echoed lyrics about the comparisons of life and love to a “West End Final”. A beautifully drifty and dreamy tune.

DRAGONS – about wanting to take a relationship beyond the first level and the implications that there may be things that you really don’t want to know about. “Beyond Here Be Dragons” – the perils of getting close (to someone who may be a Serial Killer perhaps? ;) ). A bold and hard-hitting song.

Hailed as “Monty’s Darkest Journey Yet”…”The Judas Window” is a tasty and tangy treat that I would recommend to anyone tired of the usual froth of manufactured pop with lyrics that say nothing and go nowhere. Worth a very long listen – go HERE (http://www.myspace.com/montythejudaswindow) to do yourself a very big favour.

For the thinking people among us – I give this album a very highly rated 10 out of 10.
