Today, in England, is St George's Day. What happens? Nothing much!

There may have been a parade (but not widely known). People may wear a red rose in their lapel to commemorate the day (though some fear doing it in case it provokes caustic comments). Some hang the St George Cross flag from their homes/cars (but the BNP have hijacked it and many see it as a symbol of oppression/facism). It should be a good day to celebrate all the good things about England, but instead -the people feel ashamed of their heritage.

Without going into a political rant here - it's such a damned shame that the Irish, Scots & Welsh can celebrate their National Day, but woe betide the Englishman (I'm not PC, so sod that) who dare even whisper it.

Australians celebrate their National Day with relish, and it should be likewise here. Yes, a lot of countries suffered under the Empire's rule, but that was one heck of a time ago, and people have moved on, and become better/wiser people for it (to be hoped, at least). Many nations have had their oppressed and oppressors - so why does the blame always fall back solely and squarely on English shoulders? (Or so it seems.)

Myself? I bought myself a buttonhole - a red rose with fern & baby's breath, and ate Fish & Chips with curry sauce. The weather was gorgeous (as has been most of April). The daffodils I planted are in full bloom, and the trees are all bursting with bud & blossom. This is my adopted home, and by god - I intend to celebrate it (besides, I have English & Scottish Ancestory, as being Irish by marriage)!

So...as per my Facebook Page - I wish all and any Anglophiles a very Happy St George's Day, and may your weekend be truly wonderful - cheers folks!
