Feel free to insult the Cornish as they NO LONGER EXIST. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1246970/Cornwall-Its-OK-insult-Cornish-dont-exist-rules-watchdog.html)
As an American I have no idea what this really means, but in the spirit of brotherhood to my fellow British posters, I have revised the UK map to reflect this.

by the way I wan't insulting the Cornish, just insinuating that clotted cream could be make in Scotland, well, if they had cows, and borrowed some Cornish gnomes to churn it. Oh damn!

Joan the Wad, a lucky cornish pixie, comes from there...so Cornwall MUST exist! ;)

(I found this amongst my Mum's jewellery one day, and wondered what it was!)
Joan the Wad is a mythological character in Cornish folklore. Specifically, she is Queen of the pixies (or piskeys), a race of tiny creatures usually associated with the area of Cornwall and Devon. Wad is a dialect word for torch.[1]
Not much has been written on Joan, as the folklore of Cornwall relied on oral tradition for hundreds of years. She has been associated with Jack o' the Lantern, a will-o'-the-wisp type character who leads travellers astray on lonely moors, hence the rhyme:
Jack o' the lantern! Joan the wad,
Who tickled the maid and made her mad
Light me home, the weather's bad.
However, Joan is also thought to be lucky, and another rhyme runs:
"Good fortune will nod, if you carry upon you Joan the Wad"

I'm glad someone specified that 'wad' meant 'torch.' Because on one hand that would be silly, but given that most Celtic goddesses and creatures had an aura of sex about them (or something along those lines), that would just be.....well, strange. :)
