View Full Version : Enforcing Capitalism Again: What Did You Buy Today?

Another big thread I remember from before the big crash - a case of list stuff you purchased recently.
Today, I got:
Plants vs. Zombies (a PopCap game)
Jetsons the Movie (DVD)
Jim Gaffigan - King Baby (CD)
Sodas (Seven 12-packs of Diet Pepsi, a pair of 12-packs of Diet Mountain Dew Ultraviolet, and a 12-pack of regular Mountain Dew - I would've gotten some Diet Mountain Dew, but the Pepsi truck hadn't arrived at the store where I was when I was there, so I had to make do with something else)
2 Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls (Sausage, egg, cheese, and potatoes)
4 Oscar Mayer Deli Creations (2 bacon ranch chicken flatbread, and 2 bistro provolone ham on foccacia bread)
Nick Zbu

I got:
Doctor Who: The Deadly Assassin and Image of the Fendahl. Delta and the Bannermen was also released today but considering that there are no stores that are offering good prices on Who DVDs over here and playing $20 for a three episode story is a bit of a waste, I've decided to hold off until November for a sale. Plus, I can justify a three episode story when War Games (10 episodes) and the Black Guardian Trilogy (four discs, including a movie version of a Davison story!) come out.
Plus, I just pre-ordered the final season of Friday the 13th: The Series. Awesome show that didn't get enough credit, IMHO.
Say, LD, I must ask....are you going to get GTA IV: Episodes From Liberty City when it comes out? I ask because LF needs to play Lost & Damned and I have to make fun of him for wanting the 'Gay Tony' add-on. ;)
Lord Destroyer

I honestly have no idea, Nick. LF's 360 has been acting up as of late and he doesn't have the money for add-ons and what have you.

Yesterday (9/18):
Diet Mountain Dew
Some Jimmy Dean 3-cheese omelets
A bag of Ore Ida Crispy Crowns
A couple of cream-filled cannolis from the Publix bakery
A couple of large beef & cheddar sandwiches, some loaded potato bites, and a large Mountain Dew at Arby's
Today (9/19):
PopCap game - Zuma's Revenge
A couple bottles of Axe body wash (Recovery and Instinct)

20-09-09, 04:53 PM
I had a coupon for buy one get one free on a normal size (four pieces) Arby's Mozzarella Sticks.
Seeing as their price changes have crippled my views on them... almost entirely... as well as the shift from $2.49 = 4 sticks, $3.99 = 8 sticks to $2.89 for 4, $4.09 for 6 and their mozzarella sticks happen to be my #1 favorite, well, you can figure it out from there. Still, it's nice to get 8 sticks for $3.09 post-tax. :)

Stop spending money on fast food and save up for that Episodes of Liberty City game, you fiend! I want you to know what it's like to hear the roar of a finely tuned motorcycle as it speeds past you, the last thing you seeing before the screen goes monochrome is the sound of a sawed-off blowing your head off!!
I should really start a LF fund. ;)

24-10-09, 09:45 AM
Technically it's a Vista to 7 upgrade, but I still have my 64-bit Vista Installer disc, so either way, I'm set.
And yeah, I paid the $13 for the DVD. Still waiting for it in the mail.

Well, I just reupped my Netflix subscription so I can get their streaming offerings and a disc or three in the mail. Right now I'm catching That Mitchell and Webb Look and enjoying it immensely.
We should start a NumberWang thread. :)
We went to the x-mas craft show on the weekend and picked-up a few bits for x-mas pressies.
Yesterday I also came home with a pressie of my own. My very own Galstones in a jar and minus a Galbladder.

There's a vote going on for which of those three will be the newest addition to the Mountain Dew lineup over at Dewmocracy (http://www.dewmocracy.com).
The flavors are as follows:
Typhoon - pink color, tastes like fruit punch
White Out - white/colorless, tastes like a sweeter version of Sprite or 7-Up
Distortion - green color, strong lime flavor
They did something like this a couple of years ago - the flavors in the running for that one were Supernova (strawberry/melon), Revolution (wild berry), and Voltage (blue raspberry). Voltage was the winner in that one.
The current voting...it looks like Typhoon and White Out are neck-and-neck, and Distortion is bringing up the rear. I gravitate towards Typhoon myself, although White Out and Distortion aren't bad either.

The first CAVE game to ever be officially released on American soil (without having to deal with jerks from Customs) and I was looking forward to it. It is very enjoyable, especially since the Japanese version had a downloadable content pack that came free on the American version.
By the way, you should recognize the name CAVE. They're a game company that makes arcade third-person shooters, and they're very good at it. Exceptional quality music, wonderful level design and absurdly difficult games. They've made the Donpachi and Mushihimesama game series. Here's a video from Mushihimesama Futari.

Steam had another sale. Picked up three games, all of them indie and not found in hard copy form.
Eets: It's supposed to be the inhuman monster hybrid of Lemmings and The Incredible Machine. Haven't had the chance to play it yet. ($2.50, 75% off)
Chime: Happy musical puzzle game where you put weird 5-square blocks together to make squares and rectangles. It's interesting and certainly a nifty timewaster. ($1.25, 75% off)
Poker Night at The Inventory: Pit your wits against Max (from Sam & Max: Freelance Police), Strong Bad (of Homestar Runner), Heavy Weapons Guy (from Team Fortress 2), and Tycho Brahe (from Penny Arcade). Occasionally they have an extreme lack of the funds necessary for the buy-in ($10,000) so they end up risking one of their possessions. Max will give up his legendary Lugermorph pistol and his Freelance Police Badge. Strong Bad will bid his Dangeresque sunglasses. Heavy Weapons Guy will gamble Sasha, his beloved minigun modified to the point of being known as "The Iron Curtain." Tycho will bet a bloodied Pac-Man watch. All pieces of equipment, if won, will be transferred over to your inventory in TF2. ($2.99, 40% off)
All in all, a good haul. The ONLY time I'll ever buy something off of Steam is if all of these conditions exist:
#1. It must be on sale for a pittance (Like that Portal Giveaway, where I got it for free)
#2. It is not on sale in the standard marketplace (as in, soft copies only, no hard copies of the game were EVER made)
#3. I have an online intermediary who either: (in order of likelihood)
A. Is willing to take a small hit until I can repay them
B. Owes me money
C. Did something that I can blackmail them for (This actually happened)
D. Is exceptionally kind
#4. The game in question piques my curiosity.
#5. I have the money to spare.
Sorry, I just don't trust soft copies. I need my hard copy that I can access any time I want under any situation. All it takes is one hideous FUBAR, and WHAM. The online service I got the game from could be perma-offline.
Paranoid? Yes. I'll fight tooth and nail for my games, even if I have to resort to piracy to obtain a game I bought and paid for.

Indeed it is.
I just got to Dionysus Park, where you decide the fate of another key figure (Stanley Poole) after dealing with the three Little Sisters in the area.
I'm doing pretty well in the research area - I've maxed out on Thuggish, Leadhead, Spider, and Brute Splicers, and I'm at least halfway finished with Security, Big Daddies, and Big Sisters. Still have to research Houdini Splicers (they start appearing in Dionysus Park) and Alpha Series (start appearing in Fontaine Futuristics).
