Made in 1983, this movie inspired many modern hacker terms, such as "Wardialling" - in effect, an automated modem search.

David Lightman, a bright but underachieving teen (played by a very young Matthew Broderick) tries to locate a firm's games system he has seen advertised, but accidentally hacks into the mainframe of the military defense system.

Guessing the correct word for accessing the system, he initiates a game called "Global Thermonuclear War". Called away to clean up a mess, he shuts it down.

Meanwhile, over at NORAD, there is wholesale panic, as it appears a nuclear strike has been started by Russia...which suddenly seems to evaporate into thin air.

However, the games have begun...and will continue...

Without going further, if you are a fan of computers, and technical gear...and have not already seen this movie...then see it you must. I've just seen it on a late matinee screening on Sky. Although I've seen it before, it's the sort of movie that can be watched more than once.

What the computer learns from this deadly game is something the military could sure learn a thing or two from...and should be mandatory viewing for them as such!

Rating for this movie from me is a solid 8 out of 10. Anyone care for a nice game of chess then? ;) :boom: ;)
