My only complaint about most of the "Steampunk" stuff is that most of it just looks like a bunch of crap welded together...

Don't get me wrong, I love classical gears and crap welded together, but Steampunk is more... 1700's to 1950's style with suits and proper clothing, and all the machines are practical mechanizations with wood, brass, and iron/steel... combined with ideas for the future, like a jetpack that runs on water or a missile turret that runs on a steam engine attached to an office chair, that was originally a tennis ball launcher.
