Yule What?! Selfridges Launches Xmas Range!

A full four-and-a-half months before presents are exchanged, London department store Selfridges has put its annual Christmas range on sale.

Customers can rush to buy baubles and stock up on decorations from the Yuletide shop this year earlier than ever before.

The flagship first run of Christmas goods is traditionally sold from the end of August.

The store defended its decision to bring the launch forward, insisting: "We wouldn't (do) it now unless we thought there was a market for it."

With baubles adorned with Union flags as well as "We Love England" and "We Love London" slogans, Selfridges is openly coveting the buoyant tourist trade.

A spokeswoman said the state of the British pound meant more and more visitors were spending their cash in the store.

It is too early to know how much demand there will be for Christmas decorations when the temperature in the capital is 23C.

Customers escaping the heat will not yet be forced to shop to a background of festive songs on loop.

But artificial trees on sale in bright pink and bright purple left few in doubt that Christmas has come early to the capital.

Selfridges is set to widen its release of goods over the coming months.

A broader array of festive stock will arrive in late September, when all the Christmas ranges start to appear around the store.

Christmas shops at Selfridges' Manchester and Birmingham branches will then follow at the beginning of October.

Real trees will be available for the first time this year, in December of all months.

:santa: I take it this means Nixxi can start her countdown now! No? :wicked:

Damn straight. Goes to show how most businesses rely too much on the Christmas shopping season so they can at least break even.

I know - it's ruddy ridiculous. Used to be just after my birthday in September that they started putting out the Xmas stuff. August is just...wrong! :p

...and they wonder why Christmas isn't special anymore, and why more & more people go "Bah Humbug". *sigh*

If this keeps up, it'll be Christmas decorations in stores year-round.

SOMEBODY MAKE IT STOP!! *Tears out large clumps of hair*

Well, there are specialist Christmas shops that exist here (probably there too), but that is different because you have to be a real crimbo nutter, and it's out of the way of the general populace, so it's less annoying.

They're also specialist shops, which explains enough as is. They're fine, but when the general shopping market becomes a series of Christmas Specialty Shops, then you have a problem.

I agree totally...

Speaking of Christmas Specialty shops...

I've just got a job at a garden centre as one of the Xmas temp staff, for the next 6 weeks my job will consist of putting up and decorating Christmas trees, for over 40 hours a week. And then throughout Nov & Dec it will be putting up and maintaining displays of decorations, lights, and gift ideas. I'm never going to get all that glitter off me, am I?

 I can see that by the REAL Crimbo time, you'll say "Stuff it!"...and I don't mean the turkey either!

Well I did buy Pro a little x-mas pressie when my sister was over. I thought he would like it and didn't know if I would come across is again at a later time.

Bought a couple more Xmas pressies, and tucked them away. :)

Went to High Legh Garden Centre last week with M-I-L...they had a Xmas Shop, and it looked GREAT. Only bummer thing was - the Grand Opening wasn't until that night...SO, I couldn't get into it!

:awww:  :awww:

Nope, not sick of it yet. REALLY wanted to get into that Crimbo Shop - it had a Gazebo with 4 Animated Santas playing Xmas songs...hehehe...

Yeah, its enjoyable for the people who are able to walk away, but not for those of us stuck there 50 hours a week. I am never getting this glitter out of my hair and I woke up this morning singing 'santa is coming to town'. Just kill me now.
