LF reviews again back in 2005...

...the last haven for humanity. After coporate conglomerate wars intercolliding with governmental military campaigns, all of the surface of Earth was annihilated. Under the control of an omnipotent AI named "The Controller," the general citizenry and the coporate conglomerations have become weakened after years of stasis. The Ravens, a team of mech mercinaries who did work for whoever they wished, also were under the constant watch of the Controller. Something had to be done.
The first official outbreak of anti-Controller resentment started with a group named "UNION" who wanted the destruction of The Controller, while small, still held an impact in the underground populace. The corporations, Crest Industries, Mirage and Kisaragi, continued on with their clashes but stayed in check. The most powerful corporation, Crest, is an avid supporter for the Controller. Kisaragi was neutral in the matter, but Mirage had doubts about both Union and the Controller.
Enter you - the newest Raven in the fold. What will happen? What corporation will win? Will Union overthrow the Controller? Can you climb the Arena's hights and become the greatest Raven ever?
Honestly, this game is ****ing awesome, and when you do beat the game, there's plenty more to be done, such as the Extra Arena, where you team up with another Raven to climb the hights of team battle, or new opponents in the Arena, such as the ever-devastating Exile, who has a reputation of ripping an AC to shreds within mere seconds. I must've spent an assload of an amount of time trying to kick that guy's ass.
Newer addons would be the ability to choose who you go into a mission with. You can have as many as two units covering your ass, whether the units are planes, helicopters, MTs or Ravens.
Old and new parts show up in this game, with some of the classics, the Karasawa Laser Rifle and the Moonlight Beam Sabre making their appearance, or the newest optional part in its debut, the OP-INTENSIFY, capable of turning any lack-luster AC into a full-throttle PLUS machine.
(PLUS is a reference to the first Armored Core, where if you lose bad enough, the game gives you certain handicaps, such as enhanced energy, automatic radar, turning your beam sabre into a devastating beam wave, and other little add-ons. However, OP-INTENSIFY is gained by beating the **** out of the game.)
Gameplay: 9 out of 10. Seriously, damn good. The only way they could possibly make this better is by giving us the ability to play in the cockpit of the AC.
Story: 7 out of 10. Interesting. It captivated me enough to say "to hell with the mission type, let's kick some ASS!" An example of missions I hate would be when I've got to help out some douchebags by covering their asses while they evacuate.
Controls: 9 out of 10. Excellent, as always.
End-Game Addons: 10 out of 10. There is no way you could possibly make it even better than it already is.
Intro Movie: 10 out of 10. What says "Armored Core" more than seeing a team arena match set in the middle of a residential area? ****ing incredible.
Graphics: 9.5 out of 10. In-spanking-credible.
Levels: 8 out of 10. In some missions, you end up going to the same freakin' area about two to three times. Why? One corporation wants one thing, another wants another, and a third wants even bigger differences.
Overall: 9 out of 10. ****ing incredible. Anything else would be an insult to the Armored Core series.
