Another one from LD in 2006...
Consoles: Originally released to the PSP, and recently released to the PS2.
Setting: Liberty City, about 2 to 3 years before what happens in Grand Theft Auto III. Toni Cipriani returns after about 3 years of having to lay low because he killed a made man on orders of the Leone don, Salvatore Leone. Toni finds himself having to work his way up the ladder instead of getting the high-up position he thought he'd get.
In the time Toni was gone, the Leone's supremacy is starting to slip, what with the Sindacco family, the Diablos, the Yakuza, and the Triads, and the Colombians all making their grabs for power. Liberty City is run by a mayor that's in the Forelli family's pocket.
Basically, Liberty City Stories is GTA3 with some facets of Vice City thrown in. You don't need to monitor Toni's fat, muscle, respect, or sex appeal, there are motorcycles available (there weren't any in GTA3), and Toni can't swim (meaning a dip in the water means you're as good as wasted). I heard you can get a $50 good citizen bonus (like in VC) if you clobber someone being chased by a cop - but I've yet to see that.
Unique stunt jumps and rampages return, and are necessary for 100% completion (closest thing to rampages in San Andreas was the gang wars in Los Santos, and the USJ's weren't necessary for 100% completion). The hidden packages are back, and look like a hand doing the "horns" gesture. The usual vehicle side missions (Taxi, Firefighter, Vigilante, and Paramedic) are back, along with something new, called Trash Dash.
So far, LF is convinced it's an easy game - he's plowed onto Staunton already but hasn't bothered with the side stuff. It's easy by my standards, but I'm sure there's something out there that's near impossible like Supply Lines from San Andreas or The Driver from Vice City.
From what I've seen so far - I'll give it an 8 out of 10.
