Another one from LF in 2004...
Alright, alright, you guys know enough about the GG series that I don't have to go into some incredibly elaborite hunk of crap, so I'll just delve straight into it.
This game, is probably one of the worst GG-types that was ever created. The sole purpose of this game is pretty much to stave off any effects of needing to play GG. That's pretty much it. The backgrounds are low quality, the character animations are pretty good, though. The controls seriously leave something to be desired (L = Punch, B = Kick, R = Slash, A = Heavy Slash), but it can be edited. The sound sucks, although some voices were actually inputted into the game and sounded pretty good. The music sounds like it was downgraded from good to "Hey, who the **** crapped on the telephone"
One of the more unique characteristics of this game is the addition of Tag-team playing as well as 3-on-3 matches. Now, if they could somehow add in a kinda MVC2 feel to the character switching rather than wait for one of the team members to die or if there was like a Party system similar to Project Justice, then it'd be better. (HEY GAME DEVELOPERS, I'M GIVING YOU A FREAKING HINT HERE!)
The AI in this game is honestly crap, and there are a few bugs in battle. One example would be when Chipp goes so fast that he smashes into his opponent five times then goes into a downward slice...
1. Going through the motions, but the last one suddenly misses, you'd still do the downward slash... suddenly became, the last one misses and you just land without a damn care.
2. Bashing into a blocking opponent who staves off five attacks only to be hit with a downward slash becomes... a blocking opponent who gets nothing happening to them whatsoever.
One weird thing was when I was using Sol Badguy in battle, I did a Heavy Slash Volcanic Viper near the edge of the screen and somehow scored 12 hits. Tell me that isn't messed up.
Pretty much, everything in GGX just went to GGX-AE, but became slightly suckier. [b]I give it 3/5[b/], because...
1. I like the GG series.
2. Now I don't have to be near a PS2 to play the GG series.
3. I like the challenge of TRYING to do Dizzy's Necro attack (where Necro traps the opponent in a casket and then smashes the opponent for 6 hits from his bow and arrow)
4. Ever since I've just been listening to GG music while working at my workplace, I've had an ever-growing need to play any GG game. This one little cart allows me to hook into the interactive world temporarily so I can get my fix.
